What’s your favourite Thanksgiving/autumn food?

My favourite Thanksgiving food is pumpkin pie cheesecake – topped with tons of whipped cream!

Do you have any traditions for the Thanksgiving long weekend?

Yes – Thanksgiving weekend is always spent with family and friends. My family will gather at my parent’s house for a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner, followed by a family hike in the forest. My partner’s family gathers at his aunt’s cottage in Muskoka, where his uncle deep fries two turkeys!

What’s your favourite fall memory?

Last October, my parents held a plum dumpling party for my nephew’s first birthday. Plum dumplings (Szilvásgombóc) are a traditional Hungarian treat – fresh plums with cinnamon sugar, wrapped in a potato dough, coated in breadcrumbs and browned butter. The whole family joined in on the process, from placing plums and cinnamon sugar on the rolled-out dough, shaping the dumplings, cooking them, rolling them in breadcrumbs, and finally eating them. We made hundreds! Many lovely family memories were made without a dumpling to spare.

How would you spend your ideal Thanksgiving weekend?

Ideally, I would spend my Thanksgiving weekend camping in Algonquin Provincial Park! I would love to spend the weekend hiking our favourite trails, like Centennial Ridges or Bat Lake, enjoying the fall colours, cool weather, and cooking Thanksgiving dinner over a fire.

What’s your favourite Thanksgiving/autumn food?

There are too many to name! Autumn and Thanksgiving are Canada’s wheelhouse with lots of seasonal options. Most Canadian meat is in its prime at Thanksgiving, pasture-raised pork, grass-fed beef, and various farm and game birds. One of my favourite dishes is stuffing! You can make it sweet or savoury, either way it’s all kinds of delicious! I love all things pie, whether it be a pot pie made with beef that I braised in my slow cooker for 8 hours until it was fork tender or a dessert pie like pumpkin or apple. I love picking my own apples every year!

Do you have any traditions for the Thanksgiving long weekend?

For the last few years I have been blessed to have my family and friends come to my home so I can cook them Thanksgiving dinner. I go all out! Turkey, stuffing, gravy, roasted potatoes!!! I was most proud of myself the year my family started to bring their own take away containers, they all wanted my leftovers. ;)

What’s your favourite fall memory?

My husband and I always like spending time in the kitchen! We try new things every year. Last year we bought half a pig and made our own bacon and sausages. The year before that we became pro bakers learning how to make the perfect sourdough and the perfect Montreal style bagels. Hmm, we butchered, we baked, maybe we will try making candles this year!

How would you spend your ideal Thanksgiving weekend?

Ummm…that’s easy - in a food coma surrounded by my loved ones!

What’s your favourite fall memory?

When I was younger, I used to love carving pumpkins! My dad would buy me and my siblings one pumpkin each to carve and we would have a contest to see who would have the best carved pumpkin!

Visiting a local market with my family, shopping, and drinking lots of pumpkin spice lattes!
